640 GEOLOGY

In this project, members learn about rocks and minerals; how to collect, identify and display them.

 

 

Focus:

  • To learn the different kinds of rocks
  • To learn to collect and care for specimens
  • To learn to take safe field trips
  • To learn to use maps for collecting

What members can do: (Beginner level)

  • Take an exploring field trip
  • Tour abstract office for plat maps
  • Build a display collection of 15 rocks
  • Give a geology demonstration or talk

  • Increase your collection to 30 rocks and minerals
  • Take two collecting field trips
  • Use the acid test to identify rocks and minerals
