4-H

What is a Project?

A 4-H project is a specific area chosen by a 4-H member.  There are more than 60 projects to select from.  Examples include:  training a pet, making clothing, growing plant, raising an animal or even running your own babysitting business.  A member can enroll in one or several projects each year.  The 9 to 12 year olds will enjoy trying many different projects.  By age 13, members will have a general idea what their interest and talents are and they can concentrate on their efforts in the same projects each year.

Once a project has been selected, members set goals and plan learning experiences using 4-H guideline materials.  The project extends for at least six hours of learning time and provides in-depth, age appropriate activities.  Within each project members should included activities that involve public speaking, leadership and community service.  Volunteer leaders and resource people, along with County Extension Staff, are ready to assist members with their 4-H projects.
